Share Your Views on VSME Market Acceptance

Following the issuance of the European Commission’s Recommendation on the Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs (VSME) on 30 July 2025, EFRAG is pleased to launch a market acceptance progress survey.

Objectives of the survey

The survey aims to assess the current level of awareness and use of the VSME standard. It also seeks to understand its acceptance among SMEs as a voluntary reporting tool, and to measure acceptance among users such as financial institutions, business partners, and supply chain actors, who may rely on it as a credible source of sustainability data. In addition, the survey aims to identify barriers and opportunities that could foster broader uptake of the standard across Europe.

Who should complete the survey

EFRAG invites contributions from:

  • SMEs and micro-undertakings that may apply the VSME standard voluntarily.
  • Financial institutions, investors, and credit institutions relying on sustainability information from SMEs.
  • Supply chain counterparts requesting ESG data from SMEs (companies and other players).
  • Public authorities involved in sustainability reporting.
  • National Standard Setters
  • European and National Associations representing both preparers and users of sustainability information.

Why participate

By completing the survey, stakeholders will:

  • Help EFRAG in understanding the market acceptance of the VSME Standard.
  • Ensure that the standard meets the practical needs of SMEs and their stakeholders.
  • Enable EFRAG to identify further areas in which support is needed when using VSME.
  • Support the European Commission’s objective of reducing the reporting burden on SMEs while ensuring relevant and comparable sustainability information, and increasing the access to cross border finance
  • Contribute to building a widely accepted and trusted reporting framework across Europe.
