IFRS 17 Limited update of 2018 Case Studies
EFRAG has been requested by the European Commission (EC) to provide its opinion on whether IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts (IFRS 17) meets the criteria in the IAS Regulation to be endorsed for use in the EU and EEA. The assessment for endorsement includes technical criteria and whether the new IFRS Standard is conducive to the European public good.
EFRAG has undertaken an impact analysis of IFRS 17 in the form of two case studies (an extensive and simplified one) during 2018. Since then, the IASB has initiated Amendments to the Standard.
In order to capture the effects of these Amendments, EFRAG launches a limited update of the 2018 case studies. As the Amendments are not yet final, also this limited update of the case studies is not final yet. It will be completed over the next months in parallel with the IASB work on the Amendments.
EFRAG is calling for volunteers to participate in the limited update of the case studies and is seeking the participation of a range of entities involved in providing insurance products and services.
The limited update of the case studies is published already today in order to allow interested insurers to start their preparation for completing the answers. It will also serve as an open dialogue with interested participants as it allows to bring comments on the amended IFRS 17 into the endorsement process, in particular the development of the draft endorsement advice.

The closing date for expressions of interest in participating in the limited update of the case studies is Friday 28 February 2020. Please submit your expression of interest to IFRS17Secretariat@efrag.org.
