Internship – Digital Reporting (XBRL taxonomy)

  • Location: EFRAG offices, Brussels, Belgium

  • Period: 6 months term

  • Hours: Full-time (38 hrs/week)

  • Allowance: Contribution to living costs, meal tickets + transport allowance

Responsibilities of the position

Support the EFRAG sustainability reporting activities in developing draft European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) in the area of digital corporate sustainability reporting with XBRL.

The digital sustainability XBRL taxonomies developed EFRAG will be used by thousands of companies to make their human-readable sustainability statements machine-readable.

The internship role entails giving support to the work conducted by the EFRAG technical staff in drafting of technical documents, regular engagement with EFRAG’s governance bodies (EFRAG Reporting Technical Expert Groups and Reporting Boards), international XBRL experts, working groups and outreach to a broad range of external stakeholders including preparers, users, national standard setters, auditors, regulators.

The internship is based at EFRAG’s office in Brussels, and it requires working at least two day per week in the office.

Main Tasks

  • Helping to update and refine XBRL taxonomies based on sustainability reporting standards or regulatory requirements. This includes working with taxonomy editors and tagging tools.

  • Developing and automating an integrated quality assurance using CI tools in Github.

  • Working closely with other team members, including senior taxonomy and project managers, to ensure the coherence and relevance of the taxonomy

  • Participating in meetings and calls with stakeholders to discuss updates and feedback on the taxonomy

  • Gathering and analysing feedback from users of the taxonomy to identify potential areas for improvement

  • Assisting in the preparation of documentation, user guides, and training materials for the taxonomy

Profile

Support EFRAG and the EU Commission in shaping the future of digital corporate sustainability reporting with XBRL.

  • You must be enrolled or have a degree in Business Informatics (including informatic/IT courses), Business Economics, Informatics (including accounting courses), or other similar subjects.

  • You are interested to learn more about digital reporting and data modelling (IT related).

  • You have basic skills or experience in developing software (e.g. Python, JavaScript, HTML).

  • Corporate reporting standards (like IFRS) or sustainability reporting standards are no foreign terms to you.

  • Experience and advanced skills in working with MS Excel, Powerpoint and Word.

  • Good English skills (written and spoken) are required.

  • You must have EEA nationality and be based in Brussels during the time of your internship.
