With over 21 years of experience in the banking sector, Aranzazu is a recognised expert in financial instruments, with a particular focus on derivatives, treasury products, and hedging.

She began her career at Deloitte (formerly Arthur Andersen) as an auditor specialising in the banking sector. In 2005, she joined the Santander Group as a Global Banking Accounting Manager. In this role, she developed extensive expertise in end-to-end processes for financial instruments and a strong understanding of the key challenges financial institutions face in accounting. She also contributed to several major accounting standard implementation projects, including IFRS 9.

She currently serves as a Senior Manager in the Santander Group Accounting Regulation Area, where she is responsible for setting accounting policies and managing relationships with auditors, regulators, and supervisors on accounting matters. Her role also includes defining the accounting treatment of complex products and hedging strategies, delivering IFRS training across the Group, and advising on the implementation of new standards.

In addition, she is an active member of the Hedge Accounting Working Group at the European Banking Federation (EBF) and the Senior Accounting Group at the Institute of International Finance (IIF), giving her direct exposure to IFRS developments and proposed amendments relating to financial instruments.

Aranzazu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from San Pablo CEU University (Madrid) and a Master’s degree in Financial Instruments and Derivatives from the Instituto de Estudios Bursátiles (Madrid).
