10/02/2020 - Joint Networking Event EFRAG and the IFRS Trustees Foundation - 18/02/2020

EFRAG and the IFRS Foundation Trustees, will organise a joint European networking event : Financial reporting: remaining relevant in a changing environment, on 18 February 2020 evening in Brussels.

For many decades, investors and others have looked to financial reporting to provide high-quality, reliable information on which to make informed investment decisions.

Recent work to adopt IFRS Standards and achieve global convergence and consistency has substantially enhanced the quality of financial reporting around the world. The EU has played an essential role in the global adoption by mandating IFRS Standards in the 2002 IAS Regulation for consolidated financial statements of listed companies from 2005 onwards.

However, information needs to continue to evolve. Advances in technology provide an ever-increasing range of information sources and analytical insights, while greater use of non-GAAP performance metrics and growing interest in sustainability reporting are all factors for standard-setters to consider. The EC Action Plan on Financing Sustainable Growth and the communication of the new Commission on the Green Deal underline the importance of sustainable finance considerations and technology in corporate reporting.

At a strategic level, how should financial reporting continue to evolve, to meet the needs of investors and other key stakeholders in this changing environment?

The Trustees of the IFRS Foundation (responsible for the governance, strategy, and oversight of the International Accounting Standards Board) and the EFRAG Board (responsible for EFRAG’s positions based on the technical advice of EFRAG TEG) are meeting for a networking dinner on Tuesday 18 February 2020 at 18 :30 to engage on the future of financial reporting.

The event is by invitation only. Expressions of interest can be sent to : jcale@ifrs.org before Wednesday 12 February 2020 and will  be accommodated in case places are available.
