Thomas Ringsted

Leader of Deloitte Actuarial, Risk & Advanced Analytics practice in Scandinavia

Thomas Ringsted is a partner in Deloitte Statsautoriseret Revisionspartnerselskab, which is the Danish member firm of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited.

Thomas is a qualified actuary and is an international member of the Danish and Norwegian actuarial societies. He speaks Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, English and German.

Thomas joined Deloitte in 2003 from a position as CEO of Zurich Nordic. Before that he held various positions at Zurich both in Scandinavia and in Switzerland. Thomas started his carrier as actuarial consultant in the Danish member firm of Woodrow Milliman and one year was on secondment in London with Bacon & Woodrow.

Throughout his career, Thomas has provided an array of professional services surrounding financial reporting issues affecting insurance entities. He is recognised by all his clients as a unique professional who masters both insurance accounting and actuarial modelling and who has applied these skills as a preparer, advisor, teacher and auditor.

Thomas is part of the Danish member firm's local IFRS leadership and has been a member of the Deloitte Insurance Expert Advisory Panel since it was established in 2009 under Francesco Nagari's leadership.

Since he joined Deloitte in 2003, he has been heavily involved in developing the actuarial practice with a particular focus on audit support and insurance accounting. Danish regulators already had introduced the fair value accounting for insurance at that stage. Among the insurance audit clients Thomas serves are: Tryg (listed), Storebrand (listed), Skandia, Alm. Brand (listed), Topdanmark (listed), ATP and Danica.

Since 2009, Thomas has been an associate professor at Copenhagen University teaching insurance accounting. Furthermore, Thomas is also very active in the actuarial profession.

Thomas chairs the insurance accounting committee of the Danish Society of Actuaries. He has been a member of the Insurance Accounting Committee (IAC) of the International Actuarial Association (IAA) since 2006 and he has been co-chair of the Education and Practice subcommittee of the IAC since 2014.
