Irene Karamanou

​Irene Karamanou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting and Finance of the University of Cyprus. She received her Ph.D. in Business Administration, (Accounting), from the Pennsylvania State University, USA, in 2000. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Houston (Summa Cum Laude), an MBA from the University of Maastricht (Hons), and she is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the State of Texas.

Her research interests include the valuation effects of accounting disclosures and the role of regulation, financial intermediation and corporate governance in capital markets. She has published a number of papers in a number of journals such as the Journal of Accounting Research, the Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting, the Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance, Accounting Horizons and others. Irene has served on the editorial board of internationally accredited peer reviewed journals and she is an active reviewer for a number of accounting journals.

In the past, she worked at an audit firm as a senior auditor and for a banking organization. She served on the Bank of Cyprus Board of Directors and the board’s audit and risk committees, and currently serves as the vice-chair of the newly established Union of Cyprus Economists.
